Usually, this drug is given to those patients who have not responded appropriately to treatment with TNF antagonistic medication. Although it may be used as stand-alone therapy, this drug is usually given in combination with other drugs. In the generic form, this formulation improves joint function in adults suffering from rheumatoid arthritis by inhibiting the release of a substance called IL-6 thereby impeding the inflammatory process in the joints.
