Benicar HCT is used in the management of hypertension. It is a combination medication that is composed of three main pharmacologically active constituents. This medication differs from generic Benicar in that, in addition to Angiotensin II receptor blocker and Olmesartan those are already present in Benicar, this medication also has a thiazide diuretic. HCT stands for Hydrochlorthiazide. The exact mechanism by which the thiazide diuretic brings about an anti-hypertensive effect is not clearly understood.
