Combivir Drug Information

Combivir is an anti-retroviral combination medication indicated for use in the management of HIV1 infection. This formulation is generally used as a part of an anti-retroviral multidrug regimen. For the HIV to survive, the virus makes copies of its genetic material. For this to happen, the virus requires an enzyme known as Reverse Transcriptase. The pharmacologically active components of this generic medication are anti-retroviral in nature, which means they exert their action by suppressing this Reverse Transcriptase enzyme. It must be noted that this drug only helps to slow the replication of the virus down and not to kill it completely.
