Emend Drug Information

Emend is an antiemetic medicine belonging to the class of neurokinin 1 receptor antagonists. It is prescribed for prevention of severe and delayed nausea and vomiting provoked by chemotherapy, prevention of nausea and vomiting experienced after surgery and for treatment of cyclic vomiting syndrome. The generic medicament is always used in combination with other antiemetic drugs in order to achieve better protection against nausea and vomiting. Unlike most antiemetics this medicament does not affect the vomiting signals coming from the stomach, but stops the signals emerging from the brain (by inhibiting the activity of neurokinin – a natural chemical found in brain).

Emend Dosage Information

When used for prevention of nausea and vomiting induced by chemotherapy, Aprepitant is administered for 3 consecutive days – starting with 125 mg taken one hour before chemotherapy and continuing with a daily Emend dose of 80 mg during second and third day of treatment. The recommended dose of cheap Emend when used for postoperative protection is 40 mg taken 3 hours prior to anesthesia. Discount Emend in separate dosages of 80 mg and 125 mg/80 mg is now available at North Meds.

Side Effects and Precautions for Emend

The less grave side effects of Aprepitant include nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite, loss of hair, headache, insomnia, mild skin hives, tiredness, hiccupping. An emergency medical care is needed if patients experience any of the following more serious adverse reactions: swelling of face, lips or tongue, fever and fly symptoms, a feeling that you might faint any minute, increased thirst, intensive perspiration, inability to urinate.

Emend should be administered very carefully to patients allergic to any of its components, patients taking other medications or nutrition supplements, as well as to patients having liver disease. An individual dose adjustment might be required in these cases. Nursing mothers, pregnant women and women intending to become pregnant should consult their doctor prior to buying Emend.
