Trexall Drug Information
Trexall is used for the management and treatment of certain types of breast cancer and skin, head, neck and lung cancer. This generic drug is also used in treating cases of rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. This medication interferes with the growth of certain cells that reproduce quite quickly in the body like cancer cells, bone marrow cells and skin cells. Normally, this medication is used only after other medications have failed to achieve the desired results.
Side Effects and Precautions for Trexall
Trexall can cause a few side effects like vomiting, stomach pains, dizziness, nausea and drowsiness. If any of these side effects persist, contact your doctor immediately. Trexall or Methtrexate, can also lead to mouth sores, persistent sore throat, diarrhea, fatigue, skin rash, fever, unusual bleeding, dark urine, bone pain, black stools and discoloration of skin. In a few cases, this drug can also cause rare but very serious side effects like dry cough, hair loss, chest pain, vision changes, mood swings, muscle weakness and irregular heartbeats. If any of these side effects persist, get immediate medical attention.
Before taking Trexall or Methtrexate, inform your doctor if you are allergic to this drug or to any other medications. When taking Trexall discuss your entire medical history with your doctor. You need to keep your doctor informed if you have a history of kidney disease, liver disease, lung disease or bone marrow disorder. Do not use Trexall if you are breast-feeding since this drug can pass through breast milk and affect the baby.
Trexall Dosage Information
Trexall is administered orally or intramuscularly in patients suffering from choriocarcinoma and other trophoblastic diseases. The recommended dosage of Trexall in patients suffering from choriocarcinoma or any other trophoblastic disease is 15 mg to 30 mg daily for a period of five days. This course may be repeated three to five times, when required. The recommended dosage in adult rheumatoid arthritis is a single oral dose of 7.5 mg given once a week. For children the prescribed dosage is 10 mg/m2 once a week. At North Meds, this drug is available at a discount as Trexall 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg and 10 mg tablets and as Trexall 25 mg / ml injection.
