Mirena Drug Information
Mirena is an intrauterine contraceptive device that releases the hormone Levonorgestrel in small doses directly into the uterus. It can also be used to treat women who have heavy periods and have opted for an intrauterine contraceptive method. Mirena helps to prevent conception continuously for up to 5 years by preventing the sperm from entering the uterus by thickening the cervical mucus, preventing egg from fertilizing with the sperm or by thinning the uterus lining.
