Muse Drug Information

Muse drug is a prostaglandin. It is used for treating patients who have erectile dysfunction. It has properties of vasodilation. It induces the vasodilatory effect by directly acting upon the smooth muscles of the ductus as well as vascular arteriosus. The generic drug, thus leads to an increase in the systemic or pulmonary flow of blood. In patients with congenital heart defects, the drug acts by increasing the oxygen supply. When administered in infants the drug is used for temporary palliative therapy (and not definitive). Muse can be ordered at a discount from North Meds but only with a doctor’s prescription.

Muse Dosage Information

When treating erectile dysfunction with Muse, there is no specified dosing schedule. However, the recommended initial dose of the drug is 2.5 mcg. If there is a partial response observed with this dose then another dose of 2.5 mcg can be administered within 1 hour (total 5 mcg). If further increment in the dose is needed then it should be done only after 24 hours. The dose can be increased to 5 mcg or 10 mcg. North Meds offers Muse at doses of 125 mcg, 250 mcg, 500 mcg and 1000 mcg.

Side Effects and Precautions for Muse

Less serious (rather common) side effects associated with Alprostadil are back pain, dizziness, headache, pain in the testicles, urethra and penis, numbness or a warm feeling on the penis, rashes on the skin (of the genitals), stuffy nose, cough or other cold like sign. Muse may also cause serious side effects. These effects may include fainting, feeling light headed, bruising easily, bleeding from urethra and painful erection lasting for more than 4-hour period.

Alprostadil may also cause severe irritation or pain in the urethra and penis, tenderness, reddening and lumps on the erect penis and swelling or bruising at the site where the injection is administered. Let your doctor know immediately if you have any serious effects of the drug. Also, do not self administer Muse without seeking assistance from your health care provider.
