Sutent Drug Information

Sutentis an anti-neoplastic drug that is primarily indicated in the treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumor, especially those cases where the treatment with imatinib has failed to yield positive results. It is also indicated in the treatment of renal cell carcinoma. This generic medication exerts its actions by inhibiting a substance called tyrosine kinase which is implicated in facilitating growth of the tumor and also in promoting metastasis or spread of the tumor. This medication is known to either stop the progression of the tumor or slow it down.

Sutent Dosage Information

The recommended dose of Sunitinib Malate for both, gastrointestinal stromal tumor and renal cell carcinoma is one oral dose of 50 mg every day for a duration of four weeks followed by two weeks off the drug. This is known as the 4/2 schedule. Physicians may feel the need to adjust the dose depending on each patient’s condition; this adjustment is usually 12.5 mg increase or decrease in dose. Side Effects and Precautions for Sutent

Rarely, alopecia may also be noticed with the use of this drug. Patients with pancreatitis or liver impairment should withdraw from treatment with Sutent.
