Vigamox is a sterile ophthalmic solution belonging to a group of drugs called fluoroquinolone antibiotics. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used for treatment of eye infections (such as conjunctivitis) caused by a wide range of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria (it fights against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria). The generic medicament works by blocking a certain enzyme in the bacterial cell (DNA gyrase) which is needed for dividing bacterial DNA and respectively for bacterial cell reproduction.
