Viroptic Eye Drops Drug Information

The drug is an anti-viral medication for eye treatment in cases of primary keratoconjunctivitis or recurrent epithelial keratitis due to eye infection owing to herpes type 1 or type 2 viruses. It is a nucleoside analogue which acts by blocking certain molecules and in this manner inhibits important steps in the replication of virus DNA.

Viroptic Eye Drops Drug Dosage

The dosage of the drug is maximum 9 drops a day. Viroptic should not be administered in greater dosages a day. It is applied on the infected eye cornea, with a gap of two hours between administrations. The treatment should be continued for 7 days following re-epithelialization. Then the dosage is gradually reduced to a minimum of 5 drops a day. The maximum period of administration is 21 days, beyond which the cheap Viroptic Eye Drops may become harmful to the patient. At North Meds the drug is available in the dosage of 1 % ophthalmic solution and can be obtained as the generic drug. When patients buy the branded drug it comes as discount Viroptic Eye Drops in the dosage of 1 % ophthalmic solution.

Side Effects and Precautions for Viroptic Eye Drops

Common side effects of Trifluridine comprise a sensation of stinging immediately following the application, dryness, redness, swelling of the eyes, increased eye pressure. Therefore patients who buy Viroptic Eye Drops and take the medication should have their eye pressure checked regularly in the course of the treatment. In cases of frequent treatment, patients can experience virus resistance to Trifluridine. In case there are no signs of improvement following the 7- day therapy or no complete re-epithelialization has taken place, other forms of therapy should be administered.
