Welchol Drug Information
The drug lowers cholesterol level and is used in patients who have not responded to exercise together with diet control. It bonds to bile acids based on cholesterol and drives them out of the blood, which causes the liver to convert extra cholesterol into bile acids which results in a reduction of bad cholesterol. When treatment with Welchol is initiated, patients should continue exercising and diet control as a supplement to treatment. It is beneficial for diabetes type 2 patients.
Welchol Drug Dosage
The drug is prescribed in conjunction with a statin. Patients who buy Welchol should consume it with a meal and liquid. The ideal dose of the drug is 6 tablets taken once daily or 3 tablets twice daily. When the drug is administered as an oral suspension, the dosage is 3.75 g once daily or 1.875 g twice daily. Side Effects and Precautions for Welchol
Side effects include muscle pain, dyspepsia, constipation, pharyngitis, flu-like symptoms. Rarer side effects include headache, pancreatitis, flatulence, stool abnormalities, hypoglycemia. Colesevelam Hydrochloride is not recommended for patients with gastrointestinal motility disorders such as gastroparesis, or major gastrointestinal tract surgery.
